Further information on how the Wales and West Midlands Development Officer role is to be filled going forward will be announced shortly. In the interim, the role will be overseen by the Sport Team at British Showjumping Head Office who are available on 02476 698812.

Hereford Country Fair - Sunday 7th August

There was a good turnout for show jumping with 100 starters throughout the day. The weather was very kind and kept dry throughout the day. Whilst the classes were sponsored, entries were such that most of the prize money would have been paid in any case. Steve Williams built some interesting and testing tracks, which ensured good competition for the enthusiasts and maintained interest from the general public. The Country Fair was very well supported with much family orientated activity on the site, including helicopter rides, parachute demonstration, terrier racing and motor bike displays as well as other equestrian events.

The Inter Area Team Jumping was held on Saturday 16th July at Wales & West when ten teams competed. Unfortunately we were unable to repeat last year's success when both Area 33 teams went forward to the final at Scope. This year our Area finished 7th= and 9th.

The winner and first to qualify was Area 35 Team 2 who had 0 faults after 2 rounds following the discount of their highest score in both rounds. Five teams finished on 4 faults after the two rounds and went forward to a one member jump-off over a shortened 1.25m course. James Loffett went first for Area 41 Team 1, going clear in a time of 31.16. Area 36 Team 2, Area 41 Team 2 and Area 25 Team 1 all went clear but were unable to beat his time, finishing on 31.83 seconds, 32.04 and 34.56 respectively. It was left to Alan Thomas for Area 35 Team 1 to see whether they could take both qualifying spots for their Area. Unfortunately, although well ahead of the clock approching the last fence, he had a stop followed by a pole on the floor giving Area 41 Team 1 the second qualification. Area 33 Team 2 and Area 36 Team 1 both finished on 8 faults, Area 33 Team 1 on 12 faults and Area 25 Team 2 on 16 faults.

Area 33 Team 2:
1.00m Jo Tesh on Dante van Siberie, 4 faults in the first round & clear in the second
1.10m Debbie Roadknight on Abba II, 4 & clear
1.20m Zara Doidge-Walker on Bibberty Bobberty Boo, 16 & 4
1.25m Emma Slater on Ruxton Aim High, double clear

Area 33 Team 1:
1.00m Rosie Linnell on Sorcerer's Apprentice, clear in the first round & 4 faults in the second
1.10m Lauren Poole on Red Fire Thorn, 4 & 8
1.20m Zoe Henshall on Warno, 4 & clear
1.25m Sam Oliver on Sir Animo S, clear & 4

All team members jumped well and their efforts are much appreciated with everyone seeming to have had a very enjoyable afternoon. Thanks go to David Austin for his help and encoragement on the day.

Things could have been different in that a member of the arena party did cross behind fence 6 whilst Jo was close to take-off in order to attend to a filler at fence later in the course that had blown over. Both horse and rider were distracted, hesitated and a pole fell giving the 4 faults in their first round. An appeal to the judges was not up held. Without these faults, the team would have been on 4 and Emma Slater would surely have given her best to try and secure the second qualifying space in the jump off. However, this is show jumping with as many might have beens as there are fishermen's tales.
